SIIM Symposia & Courses
SIIM educational symposia & course materials are developed by the Society as one of the primary functions of SIIM Committees. Under the guidance of the Society's Committees, educational symposia & courses have been developed, including: The Imaging Informatics Professional Education Subcommittee has developed a pre-conference course and an accompanying syllabus/training manual, with session presentations, sample test questions, and an extensive list of references and online resources. The 2009 IIP bootcamp is available online as a Web Seminar and has been approved by the ASRT for 8 hours of Category A continuing education credit.
Would you like to spend fewer evenings at work? If you are a busy practicing radiologist, knowledge of basic informatics principles can help you to become more productive and efficient. Some industry analysts credit PACS and related technologies for solving the radiologist shortage of 2000-2002. SIIM and RSNA once again combined their efforts to offer a course in basic informatics geared specificially to the practicing radiologist. Speakers included some of the most knowledgeable and entertaining in the industry.
The 2007 course is an informatics boot camp designed to provide radiologists, especially those who work in smaller imaging centers and healthcare facilities that do not have in-house IT support, with basic information on how to make the plunge into the world of PACS.
Communication and information-sharing techniques, both within the institution and among facilities was a theme during the joint SIIM-RSNA program on practical informatics for the practicing radiologist at the recent RSNA 2006 meeting in Chicago. Dr. David L. Weiss discussed speech recognition and how SR systems can make a radiologist’s job easier and more efficient.
The R&D Committee has organized a major TRIPTM conference, several smaller forums, and 2 white papers to address the crisis of image overload.
The R&D Symposium is presented annually at the SIIM annual meeting and highlights SIIM-supported research projects.
